Ambassador
Theresa Hopkins-Staten serves as an ambassador and advocate for URU, providing strategic and tactical advice and representing URU as needed to the public, URU’s clients, and URU’s partner organizations.
Outside of URU, Theresa works for Eversource Energy, the New England utility, as Director of Connecticut Regulatory Affairs and President of the Eversource Energy Foundation. In her long career at Eversource, including as Director of Corporate Community Relations, Theresa and her team developed programs to assist limited income customers and strategically invested millions of dollars in Connecticut, western Massachusetts, and New Hampshire on initiatives aligned with the foundation’s focus areas.
She is currently a Co-chair of the University of Connecticut African American Alumni Council, and a member of the Saint Francis Foundation Board of Directors. She previously served on the Connecticut State Board of Education until 2017, becoming Vice Chair of the Board and Chair of its Legislation and Policy Development Committee in 2011; Chair of the United Way of Connecticut; Chair of the Urban League of Greater Hartford Board of Directors; and a member of the Boards of Directors of Operation Fuel, the Greater Hartford Arts Council, the National Urban League Board of Trustees.
Theresa earned a B.A. magna cum laude in Sociology from the University of Connecticut and earned a J.D. at the University of Connecticut School of Law.
